This past June my husband and I celebrated our first year of marriage – and what a wonderful journey it has been so far! As we continued to grow in our faithfulness this past year, I found myself praying the verse below quite often and wanted to find a charming way to share it with family and friends this Christmas.
With God All Things Are Possible. – Matthew 19:26
I picked out a few different sizes of unfinished clay pots at a wonderful shop nearby called Enchanted – even the name is charming! You may have some old pots just hiding in your backyard waiting to be filled. I painted them with outdoor patio paint in cloud white. You can add water to the paint for more of a white-washed look, and sponge grays to the base of the pot for more of an aged look. Let them dry 24-hours. I was going for a vintage feel so I used sandpaper to roughen the edges and create a few worn spots.
I printed a few special bible versus for the print. Or, you can find plenty of graphics online to download – be sure to mirror the image before printing and just use plain white paper.
I cut out the graphic, took my mod podge and swiped on the printed graphic. Then I centered on the pot and rubbed it smooth. Then it’s another 24-hours of waiting – no peeking! The next morning, I dampened the paper with a wet paper towel and then ever-so-gently began rolling the paper off with my finger.
After letting them dry, I sprayed them with a few coats of matte clear acrylic sealer.
Then they were ready to plant. I found a great selection of succulents at Enchanted, along with cactus potting soil. Added a little water and sat them in the window sill for some sun.
My pots of heaven will be going to some very special family and friends!
There’s also a great tutorial on transferring images using wax paper at Unexpected Elegance. Can’t wait to give this a try next!
